I have been using gimp for quite a while, and I've found the easiest way for me to work it in Windows is to set your preferences as follows: click EDIT > PREFERENCES > WINDOW MANAGEMENTĬhoose Hint for the toolbox: Utility Window GIMP's multi window display can confuse people, particularly Windows users who are not used to applications with multiple windows. There is a small bug (at least in XP) though: When you re-show the dialogs, focus is on the toolbox and you have to Alt-Tab to the main window. Use the Tab key to hide/show all dialogs. I have this as well, but if you right click the gimp page in the taskbar, it will often open on top of the other windows.
